Nate Smith
Director of Bands
Mr. Smith is in his 16th year of teaching in the Buda/Kyle community and his 6th year as the Director of Bands at Lehman School. Prior to joining the Lobo Nation he taught at Chapa Middle School, one of the feeder middle schools to Lehman, for 10 years. He is a graduate of James Bowie High School in Austin. Mr. Smith’s middle school and high school bands have consistently received sweepstakes “Superior” ratings at UIL.
Prior to becoming a teacher in Hays CISD, Mr. Smith attended Texas State University where he graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education. While at Texas State, Mr. Smith was a member of the Bobcat Marching Band, Bobcat Basketball Band, the Wind Ensemble (now known as the Wind Symphony), the Symphony Orchestra, and the Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble. He studied Tuba methods with Professor Raul Rodriguez. He served as a Section Leader, Drum Major, and Visual and Field Coordinator for the Bobcat Marching Band, was the Principal Tuba of the Wind Ensemble, and the Band Manager. He also guest conducted the Texas State University Concert Band. While at Texas State, he received the Outstanding Instrumental Music Major Award and the Kappa Kappa Psi “J. Lee Burke Student Achievement” national fraternity award for scholarship and service within the School of Music and served as the President of the Theta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Smith’s other accomplishments include being an invited clinician at the TMEA Clinic and Convention, and having an article published in the September 2013 issue of The Southwestern Musician magazine. He also was chosen as the 2014-2015 Chapa Middle School Teacher of the Year.
He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, where he has previously served as the Region 18 Band Division Chair, a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Fraternity for College Bands. Most recently, Mr. Smith earned his Master’s Degree from Lamar University in Educational Leadership.
In his free time, Mr. Smith enjoys hunting and fishing, watching Spurs basketball, playing video games, and enjoying time with his family. He has been married to his wife, Alyssa, for 21 years. She is going into her 24th year of teaching and currently is the Dyslexia Specialist at Sunfield Elementary, also in Hays CISD. Mr. and Mrs. Smith have a beautiful daughter, Adalyn, who will be turning 15 this September and plays the French Horn in the Lobo Band. The Smith family lives on 3 acres just outside of Lockhart, along with their dogs, Savana, Ozzy, and Millie.
Teya Martin
Associate Director of Bands
Teya Martin is a music educator and marching specialist dedicated to serving students in the greater Austin area. Her teaching and performance history is rich, and includes studying at Texas Tech University and teaching at a variety of schools in Lubbock, Pflugerville, Round Rock, and even Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Highlighting her performance experience are her three years of marching world class drum corps, including two years at the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. Ms. Martin keeps busy even outside of the school year, serving as Associate Conductor ans Secretary of the North East Wind Symphony in San Antonio during their summer season. Outside of teaching, Ms. Martin enjoys the live music and swing dance scene in South Austin, and is thrilled with the opportunity of bringing her teaching to Lehman High School.
Sean Frittelli
Percussion Director
Mr. Frittelli comes from a family of musicians and has studied music from an early age. He attended James Bowie High School in Austin, TX, where he participated in wind ensemble, orchestra, marching band, PASIC indoor Drumline, percussion ensemble and steelband. Mr. Frittelli performed in many TCGC competitions as well as being a performer at the 2000 PASIC Convention. He also performed with the renowned Austin Symphonic Band.
After high school, Mr. Frittelli attended Morehead State University to study with Brian Mason and Frank Otis. While there, he earned first place at the 2004 PASIC Convention with the Morehead Drumline and performed in the KMEA Showcase with the Morehead Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Frittelli moved back home to Texas and transferred to the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was a member of the percussion staff at UTSA during the inaugural season of the marching band Spirit of San Antonio, as well as the indoor drumline, while finishing his Bachelor’s Degree. At UTSA he studied percussion under Sherry Rubins and Graeme Francis.
At the age of 16, Mr. Frittelli became a member of the Phantom Regiment Bassline with Caption Head Brian Mason for the 2001-2002 seasons and Caption Head Paul Rennick during the seasons of 2003-2005. Sean was fortunate to have Brian “Chavez” Lowe as his bass tech for all five years in Phantom Regiment. In 2001 and 2002 he performed with the Phantom Regiment Bassline in the DCI Individual & Ensemble competition.
Over the years, Mr. Frittelli has taught percussion at many high schools in Texas such as Bastrop H.S., Pearsall H.S., Dripping Springs H.S., MacArthur H.S., Victoria Memorial H.S., and Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., as well as several middle schools. He has been a member of the percussion staff for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, The Academy Drum and Bugle Corp, Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Frittelli has been married to his wife Heather since 2013 and they have two daughters, Lucia and Aria. In his free time, he enjoys playing disc golf and going on family outings with the girls.
Harry Vasquez
Colorguard Director
Harry Vasquez is originally from West Palm Beach, Florida. Mr. Vasquez started his color guard at John I Leonard High School. After graduating, he continued to march MEDEA Independent Winter Guard, the group made Independent A class finals at WGI. In the summer of 2010 Mr. Vasquez marched Teal Sound Drum Corps this was the first year the corps participated in World Class. While attending Florida Atlantic University Mr. Vasquez continued his marching career. In 2011 Mr. Vasquez marched Premonition Independent Winter Guard, the group made WGI Independent World class finals and finished their season in 11th place. In 2012 Mr. Vasquez marched Braddock Independent this group also made WGI Independent World class finals and they finished the season in 6th place. In 2013 Mr. Vasquez returned to Premonition Independent Winter Guard in 2013, Premonition Winter guard was a WGI Independent Open class semi-finalist.
Mr. Vasquez has taught various groups in South Florida. In 2015 he became the Color Guard Director of Dwyer High School. During his time at Dwyer High School the color guard placed third in the AAA class during winter season, and they received superior rating at FBA. In 2017 Mr. Vasquez made his moved out to Texas. Mr. Vasquez was Assistant Color Guard director at Lehman High School. During his time Lehman High School the JV color guard constantly placed in the top in the regional A class in TCGC and in 2019 the Varsity color guard made TCGC State Finals where they finished in 7th place in the National A class. Mr. Vasquez received his B.A. in History from Texas State University in the spring of 2020. Mr. Vasquez was the Color Guard Director at Cedar Creek High School. Under Mr. Vasquez guidance the color guard was constantly in the top five in the Novice class in TCGC. Mr. Vasquez is very excited to rejoin the Lehman Lobo Band!
